This Place We Call Home - Dublin Open Houses October

The Irish Architecture Foundation have organised a whole weekend of events across Dublin from the 16 - 18 October. 80 buildings will be opening their doors, and a number of lectures, debates and tours will take place across the city. Architect Michael Hayes has curated the event and has deliberately chosen a range of buildings that have shaped Dublin as a city and hopes that his choices will provoke debate about how Dublin will meet future housing needs. Some of the buildings that will be open to the public over the weekend include the Georgian Mews house, 31 Leeson Close converted by architect Sam Stephenson, and the 18th century town house in South Leinster Street which became of the National Gallery of Ireland at the beginning of this century and boasts extraordinary Egyptian-style interiors. There will also be tours of the Dublin Corporation housing estates in Crumlin constructed ruing the 1920s and 1930s. To learn more about the event visit openhousedublin.com or visit The Irish Times
