September Events at the Irish Georgian Society Celebrate Ireland's Rich Heritage
Posted 04/09/2025

The Dublin based built heritage group – the Irish Georgian Society has always been a champion of Ireland’s wider built heritage and culture looking beyond the 18th century and the parameters of the city.
The Society’s Autumn season of events is no exception and includes a members trip from the 7-12 of September to Cap Moderne in the South of France with a visit to the iconic Villa E -1087, designed by the celebrated Modernist Irish architect and interior designer, Eileen Gray. Gray who was born in County Wexford at Brownswood was one of the first women to study at the Slade school of Art and was initially celebrated for her pioneering lacquer work furniture designs only later becoming an architect in her 40s.
On the 10 September Dr Máirtín MacCon Iomarie, who co-edited ‘Irish Food History: a Companion’ with Dorothy Cashman, will be talking about Ireland’s food history from its earliest origins through to the 21st century. The talk can be enjoyed online but it will be accompanied by song and food samples so it is definitely worth an in-person visit to the City Assembly House.
On the 20 September the group has arranged a tour of the Georgian Palladian masterpiece Russborough House in County Wicklow which was designed by Richard Castle in the mid 18th century.
The Kingdom of Skills - Traditional Building Skills Demonstrations and Conservation Talks running on Friday 26 and Saturday 27 September is organised in tandem with Kerry County Council and the Trustees of Muckross House and rounds off the month with an array of practical demonstrations and talks including sash window repairs, stone carving and use of limed based mortars. The demonstrations and talks held at Muckross Traditional Farms in Killarney Co. Kerry are free to attend and don't need to be booked.
